10 Makeup Tips for Wedding Photography
Your favorite moments from your wedding day will be captured in your wedding photos forever. Here is a list of 10 makeup tips for wedding photography that will keep you looking picture perfect.

1 – Start Working on Skincare Early
Create a basic skincare routine as early as 2 to 3 months before your wedding day. Make sure to cleanse and moisturize twice daily (once in the morning and once at night).

2 – Makeup Adds Drama
Use makeup that will enhance your facial features. Many wedding photographs are digitally enhanced to soften and smooth out skin tones. This post processing style has the tendency to wash out facial features. Use makeup that will enhance your facial features to create that dramatic pop in your photos.

3 – Color Coordination is Important
Make sure you consider a harmonious color combo between your makeup, clothing and surroundings. More importantly, harmonize your lip color, cheek color, and nail color too. Traditionally the wedding party should also follow the color combos you have chosen.

4 – Consider your Eye Color
From a photographic perspective, brides with light eyes such as blue, green or hazel should consider using neutral brown eye shadow for a soothing contrast. Brides with darker eye colors such as brown should consider using cooler tones for their eye shadow such as blues or purples.

5 – Waterproof Mascara is your Friend
At almost all weddings I’ve photographed, the Bride will usually shed several tears of joy throughout her special day. Waterproof mascara will help you with running makeup and prevent you from having to step away from the party for makeup touch-ups. Also consider layering black and brown mascara to create the look of longer lashes. For light lashes, start by applying brown mascara and follow up with an application of black mascara to the tips of your lashes. For dark lashes, start with the black mascara and apply brown mascara to the tips.

6 – Don’t Forget Lip Liner with your Lipstick
Start off by applying the liner to your entire lip and use a brush to apply the lipstick. Reapply a second coat of lipstick to make sure the color stays on all night. If you like the look of shiny lips you can also apply some lip gloss on top of the lipstick.

7 – Choose the Right Foundation
One of the most important rules for wedding makeup is to make sure your foundation color matches your skin tone directly at the jawline. Consider stopping by a makeup store with a knowledgeable staff that can help you make the right match.

8 – Powder Prevents Shine
The lights used in wedding photography can create shiny reflections on oily parts of your skin. Using facial powder will help set your makeup and provide you with a matte finish to your skin. Like choosing a foundation, always try to choose a facial powder that matches closely with your natural skin tone.

9 – The Difference is in the Brush
Using blush can create beautiful highlights of your face in wedding photos. For the perfect application of blush use a blush brush. Also keep in mind that wherever you touch the brush to your face first is where the most color will be transferred.

10 – Hire a Professional
One of the most important makeup tips for wedding photography is to use a professional. A professional makeup artist will know about all of the tips and tricks listed above and more. We recommend interviewing several artists before making your choice. Ask many questions regarding makeup techniques for film and photos to test their technical knowledge.
